Tarkwa: 10 remanded over clash between mining groups

All 10 have been charged with murder, causing harm, and possession of offensive weapons, following a clash between two small-scale mining groups that led to the death of one person, and four others injured.

The Tarkwa Magistrate Court B has remanded into police custody, 10 persons who were arrested for their involvement in a clash between two small-scale mining groups last Wednesday.

All 10 have been charged with murder, causing harm, and possession of offensive weapons.

The court presided over by Isaac Osei Asare did not take their plea, and therefore adjourned sittings to April 5, 2022.

The incident which happened at a toll booth in Bonsaso, near Tarkwa, left one person dead, while four others got seriously injured.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred following a long-standing dispute over a mining concession.

Police said they found two foreign pistols, three pairs of scissors, two jackknives, and three spent BB cartridges at the scene of the incident. 

Two vehicles, with registration numbers, GN 401-19 and GN 8700-13 respectively were also impounded to assist the police in their investigations.

The Western Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, announcing a follow-up of events, said two of the injured persons have now been discharged and arrested to assist in investigations.
