OSP gives Customs Division ‘green light’ to commence auction sales

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has reviewed its directive concerning the conduct of auction sales by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The Special Prosecutor has thus given the Office the go-ahead to commence auction sales of vehicles and other goods from today, Monday, September 12, 2022.

“The Customs Division may commence auction sales of vehicles and other goods from Monday 12 September 2022.”

On August 22, 2022, the Office of the Special Prosecutor directed the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority to halt and discontinue all auction sales until it concludes its investigation.

The statement further noted that it had commenced an investigation into suspected corruption and corruption-related offenses in respect of auction sales of vehicles and other goods by the Division between July 1, 2016, and August 15, 2022.

However, per a release dated September 12, the Special prosecutor further notes that the auction sales should be conducted strictly in accordance with the requirements of the Customs Act, 2015(Act 891) especially.

Additionally, it directs the Customs Division to cooperate and work closely with authorized officers of the OSP relative to the investigation and the conduct of auction sales.

Meanwhile, the OSP has reminded all officers of the Customs Division and prospective bidders at the subsequent auctions that the investigation is still active and ongoing.
