Galamsey activity in Nkroful area forces District court magistrate to vacate official Bungalow

"I write to inform you that the Magistrate of the Nkroful District Court has relocated out of the government bungalow assigned to her as the activities of the illegal mining at the back of the bungalow is a threat to her safety, security, and health." the letter reads in part.

Activities of illegal miners in the Nkroful area have forced the magistrate of the District Court to relocate out of the government bungalow assigned to her.

The activities of the illegal mining, which is being carried out at the back of her bungalow had become a threat to her safety, security, and health.

A letter signed by the Regional Administrative officer of the Judicial Service in Sekondi to the DCE for Ellembelle District, says that the ongoing mining at the back of the said bungalow takes place day and night depriving the magistrate of the needed rest thus has affected her health and safety.

Additionally, it states that the galamsey activities pose a great threat to her life since there have already been a series of clashes involving the illegal miners within the area.

Subsequent to a visit by the  Supervising High Court Judge and others on March 5, 2020, there was an assurance from the Assembly to stop the galamsey activities and provide the needed security however the situation has gotten worse.

As a result, the magistrate has moved out of the bungalow for her safety, security, and health.
