An Accra Circuit Court has warned that it would consider striking out the case involving five persons facing charges over the robbery incident at Caprice in Accra on December 9, 2022, if the lead prosecutor fails to turn up in court.

When the matter was called on Friday, the prosecution was absent in court.

The court presided over by Mrs Afia Owusua Appiah, noted that at its last sitting too, the prosecutor was absent and another police officer held his brief.

She, therefore, ordered that on the next adjourned date, April 19, should the substantive prosecutor fail to appear in court, it would strike out the matter.

The accused persons' Prince Anthony Chiobi, Izichuku Igwenagu, Martin Ahamafula Onwukwa, Godfred Chukuebuka, and Emmanuella Chinwetalu (a pregnant woman), have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery.

According to prosecutors, the accused persons absconded with an amount of GHC410,000, $8,000, and two iPhones which belonged to a Chinese businesswoman whom they shot in the hand on the day of the incident.

Police prosecutors had also told the court the accused persons are said to belong to a group of robbers who allegedly travelled to Ghana to rob and leave the jurisdiction.

The pregnant woman involved is said to be the wife of a sixth member of the gang who is now at large.
