Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong to be inducted as GSL Director

Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong popularly known as Lawyer Yaw Oppong will be officially inducted into office as Director of Legal Education of the Ghana School of Law today, December 15, 2022.

The event, which will be attended by high-powered dignitaries including the Chief Justice, His Lordship Kwasi Anin Yeboah, will be held at 10 am at the Ghana School of Law, Makola Campus.

Barima Oppong assumed office on April 1, 2022, following his appointment in early March, per the retirement of former director, Mr. Kwasi Prempeh-Eck.

As a former senior lecturer of the school, Mr. Oppong is also a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana and a Barrister-at-Law with over 22 years of experience in practice.

He has invaluable experience and expertise in Energy and Natural Resource Law and has enormous experience in Banking and Finance Law and practices having worked as a lawyer for various banking and financial institutions in Ghana.

It is worth noting that Barima Oppong is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London, and is currently the Managing Partner of Ampofo, Oppong, and Associates, a firm of Lawyers, in Accra, Ghana. 

He was recently installed Mawerehene of Akyem Abuakwa, one of the sub-chiefs of the Akyem Abuakwa Paramountcy.

Yaw Oppong is also a prolific writer and author of several articles and a book, including his most recent book, Contemporary Trends in the Law of Immovable Property in Ghana, and an online published article titled Domesticating Dispute Resolution Arising from Petroleum Agreements in Ghana.

He has for several years been a regular resource person contributing to topical discussions on a myriad of legal issues and is a well-known personality on various media platforms in Ghana.

He obtained a first degree in Law at the University of Ghana and successfully qualified as a Barrister-At-Law from the Ghana School of Law, Makola – Accra, Ghana.

Yaw Oppong also holds a Master’s Degree in Oil and Gas Law (LLM) from the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, Legon.

His current choice of career as a professional lawyer, lecturer, chief, and a farmer has put him in a position of being exposed at a practical level to the ongoing interaction between traditional customary law and practices on the one hand, and the demands of modern technological, infrastructural and industrial development on the other.
