Mr. Yaw Acheampong Boafo has been declared President-elect after a keenly contested Ghana Bar election in Bolgatanga.

Mr. Boafo is the current National Secretary of the Association and had served as President, Vice President, Secretary and Social Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Bar in the past.

After an election which saw his opponent collect 47.16% of the total valid votes cast, Mr. Boafo is set to continue in the stead of his boss, Mr. Anthony Forson Jnr., who pursued a robust ICT agenda during his tenure, crowned by the first virtual broadcast of the Annual National Conference of the Bar Association.

Of the total 1145 valid votes cast in the Presidential slot, 485 persons voted for Mr. Yaw Boafo through the electronic system while 120 voted for him through the manual system. Meanwhile, 457 voted for his contender, Mrs. Efua Ghartey through the electronic system and 83 did same through the manual system. Four votes were rejected in this category. Altogether, Mr. Boafo garnered 52.83% of the votes and Mrs. Ghartey managed 47.16%.

In the Vice Presidential race, Mr. Kwesi Amoako Adjei won with a total of 656 votes, representing 57.44% of total valid votes cast. 523 of this was through the electronic system and 133 through the manual system. Mrs. Yaa Onyameye Gyakobo came second with a total of 486 votes. Out of this, 416 was through the electronic system and 70 was through the manual system. There were 7 rejected votes in all, with the total valid vote count at 1142.

Nana Serwaa Acheampong came top in the treasurer race, polling a significant 694 votes out of a possible 1132, representing 61.3%. Her competitor, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi nonetheless garnered 438 of the total valid votes, representing 38.69%. 594 of Nana Serwaa’s votes were through the electronic system and the remaining 100 determined manually. Dr. Anane had 335 votes electronically with 103 votes coming through manually. There was as many as 17 rejected ballots in this category.
