What sort of Bar do you want? : Lawyers to decide at Bar Conference 2023

As the 2023 Bar Conference inches closer, the President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mr Yaw Acheampong Boafo has revealed that it is time for lawyers to decide on the sort of Bar they want.
According to him, the organization of the Bar of Old is different from the current times owing to the increasing cost involved and the rising number of lawyers thus calling for an urgent decision.
“One of the most important things we are going to do is that this year, we will decide the future of the legal profession. We are at a crossroads. What sort of Bar do we want?”
In the days of old, we had a Bar of few members, just last year, we had about 1045 new lawyers enrolled. The numbers are such that the Bar must make a critical decision on how the Bar is organized.”
Speaking during an interview with Dennislaw News, Mr Acheampong further indicated that this year’s conference like the previous ones will have several exciting programs and events like the continuous legal education on Artificial Intelligence, spousal property, and the delay in the administration of Justice.
The 2023 Bar Conference which will be held at the New Examination Hall of the University of Cape Coast from the 11th to 15th September 2023, is on the theme; “Ensuring high standards and integrity in public life: The role of the legal profession.”
In attendance will be the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, the Honourable Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame and other dignitaries.
Also, the conference theme will be digested in an address by a recently retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Jones Mawulorm Dotse, who is the keynote speaker.
