W/R: Police to fight fake kidnappings as ‘missing’ Takoradi woman is found not pregnant
According to the police, over 40 Police officers were assigned to the case to help track the whereabouts of the woman, in operations that were consistently carried out on a 24-hour basis
Police in the Western Region have announced the commencement of efforts to clamp down incidences of fake kidnappings in the region.
This is contained in a statement released by the regional police command on the reappearance of the woman who was alleged to be pregnant and missing in Takoradi, Josephine Panyin Mensah.
According to the police, over 40 Police officers were assigned to the case to help track the whereabouts of the woman, in operations that were consistently carried out on a 24-hour basis.
When the woman was found, however, it was discovered that she was not pregnant. Further examinations by the Axim Government Hospital indicated that she had never been pregnant within the period under review.
The police have now announced that the woman who was previously believed to be a victim is now a suspect in a case of fake kidnapping. The police statement reveals that the medical facility she listed as her alibi, the European Hospital in Takoradi did not corroborate her claims of antenatal visits and assessments within the period under review.
Police now believe that she may have conspired with others to orchestrate this planned disappearance. Consequently three other persons have been arrested to assist in investigations.
Meanwhile, the Regional Police Command has announced that it has constituted a team from the National Headquarters to fight the growing instances of fake kidnappings in the region.
“We wish to give the assurance that we will continue to revise our security strategies to protect the people of the Western Region and the rest of the country,” the statement concludes.
Meanwhile, the family of Josephine Mensah have been informed of these developments.
