Two police officers die in pursuit of armed robbers in Walewale

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the deaths of two officers who were involved in a crash while pursuing suspected robbers on the Walewale-Bolgatanga road.

The two, Chief Inspector James Akakose Aroma and Corporal Nii Osekle Charles died on the spot after the crash on Thursday, 21st October 2021.

A statement released by the Police service indicated that three other persons were involved in the crash. They however sustained various degrees of injury. Meanwhile information from Accra-based Citi News indicates that they were rushed to the Walewale Government Hospital for medical attention.

The three other officers have been identified as Constable Akanvariwen Daniel, Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah and Constable Iddrisu Gafaru. Due to the severity of their injuries however, Constables Ezekiel Quarshie Tawiah and Iddrisu Gafaru were referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

The Police statement further revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has spoken to the families of the deceased and informed them of the incident.

Meanwhile, plans are currently underway to airlift the injured to Accra for further treatment.
