Truck driver jailed six months over train accident on Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line

Appearing before the Juapong Circuit Court on Friday, Mr. Dzidotor pleaded guilty to three out of four counts of the charges that were levelled against him.

A 41-year-old driver Abel Dzidotor, has been sentenced six months to jail after his stationary truck caused a collision with the new modern train that was running a test drive on the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line on Thursday.

The incident resulted in minor damage to the train, the Ministry of Railway Development confirmed in a statement. 

Appearing before the Juapong Circuit Court on Friday, Mr. Dzidotor pleaded guilty to three out of four counts of the charges that were levelled against him.

The driver was arraigned on the charge of careless and inconsiderate driving which he was sentenced with 100 penalty units and in default serve 20 months in jail.

On Count 2, he was charged with unauthorized stopping which carried a sentence of 20 penalty units and in default serve 5 months imprisonment.

On Count 3 he was charged with causing unlawful damage, and sentenced six months imprisonment with hard labour.

The Court has adjourned the hearing on Count 4 which is charge of failing to produce a driver's license to May 9th, 2024.

The sentencing is to be run concurrently.
