In recent times, most Ghanaians, especially politicians, have tagged certain judges as belonging to certain political parties via a vis their judgments and rulings in some cases.

This has thus led to the conclusion among many that Ghana’s judiciary is polarized on political lines.

However, appearing before Parliament’s Appointment Committee, Justice Henry Kwofie, a nominee for the Supreme Court of Ghana, rubbished such claims, indicating that there are no political judges in Ghana.

He noted that judges act according to their conscience and their oaths of office and thus cannot be described as acting for any political reason.

When quizzed on the readiness of Ghana’s Judiciary in the area of technology, he said that currently, the Judiciary, through the E-Justice system and computerization, is trying to catch up with the current trends in technology.

Also, Justice Kwoffie, said that the issue of corruption is difficult to deal with but advocated the need to use the institutional framework of the judiciary to fight it.

Justices Henry Kwoffie, Yaw Asare Darko, and Richard Agyei Frimpong, all of the Court of Appeal, were nominated by the president in November for vetting and consideration to fill in three vacancies at the apex court.
