Suspected Chinese and Ghanaian galamseyers arrested in Nzema East

Two Chinese nationals and Ghanaians have been arrested by the Nzema East Municipal Security Council at a newly developed Galamsey site at Kwakwukrom.

A report filed by GhanaWeb indicates that the four were picked up on Tuesday, July 6 2021 between 1200hours and 1800 hours. The suspects have been identified as Li Gou Hua, 40; Wei Hua Fen, 37; Gambo Akpandaa, 29; and Karim Abdulai, 28.

The Chairman of the Council who spoke to GhanaWeb revealed that the suspects were arrested after a tip-off by residents. They are believed to have operated without a permit and engaged in activities that could potentially destroy water bodies and land.

Meanwhile, some three excavators which were seen on the site are yet to be removed, as the MCE revealed that efforts are currently underway in this regard. The four apprehended suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
