Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Crime Officer at the Tema Regional Police Command has asked that members of the public should stop calling the private numbers of police officers, when they find themselves in situations of emergencies or attacks.

He said the best option is to call the police emergency numbers, because officers are always on duty to attend to the needs of the public.

“Memorize or save Police Emergency Numbers: Call the Police and stop calling police officers’ numbers in case of emergencies or attacks,” he said at a seminar held by the GNA.

“Even if you call the general emergency numbers such as the 111, 18555 and others, your call will still be picked and referred but for quick response know your area police emergency number, it will help our response time,” he added.

He was speaking on the ‘Role of citizenry towards crime prevention’, where he described the police emergency numbers as the “civilians first line of defence to fight crime.”

He added that the work of the police is a shared responsibility and called on the public to collaborate with the police to fight crime.

“The public could provide the police with the relevant information on the activities of criminals in their area. Unreported and undisclosed incidents do not help in crime statistics.”
