The Office of the Special Prosecutor has announced it has begun investigations into allegations of corruption made against former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Mr. Charles Adu-Boahen.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor has promptly commenced an investigation into the actions of Mr Charles Adu Boahen and any other implicated person contained in the investigative exposé, “Galamsey Economy,” a statement signed by Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor said.

Mr. Adu-Boahen's position as Minister of State at the Finance Ministry was terminated yesterday, November 14, 2022, following allegations of bribery and corruption in an investigative report by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

According to the report, Mr. Adu-Boahen told undercover Tiger Eye investigators that the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, needs USD200,000 token as an appearance fee and some positions by an investor for the Vice President’s siblings to get his backing and influence in establishing a business in Ghana.

"You mean, like appearance fees and stuff? I mean he, himself (the Vice President), if you give him some (USD) 200,000 or something as a token, as thank you, appreciation, that’s fine. He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his campaign money in 2020,” Charles Adu Boahen is quoted to have said.
