Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Supreme Court judge Nicholas Browne-Marke as new Chief Justice.

Justice Browne-Marke was named as replacement of Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards on Thursday, December 7, according to a letter addressed to the new Chief Justice, dated December 7.

The letter signed by Secretary to the President, Julius F. Sandy, indicates that the appointment is in acting capacity. It didn’t give any reason for the absence of Mr Edwards, who has been in charge of the Judiciary since December 2018.

The new Chief Justice, Browne-marke, was appointed to the Court of Appeal in March, 2007 and to the Supreme Court in December, 2014.

He is also a senior judge at the Supreme Court in The Gambia.
