Prof Mawutor Avoke reinstated as UEW VC

A letter dated February 4, 2022, and signed by Nana Ofori Ansah I, Chairman of the Governing Council indicates that Prof Avoke is being reinstated as Vice-Chancellor of the University forthwith in compliance with the order of the Court.

A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof Mawutor Avoke has been reinstated by the Governing Council of the University to serve his unexpired term at the University.

Prof Mawutor Avoke and other Principal Officers of the University were ordered in 2017 to step aside pending the final determination of a court case after a citizen of Winneba, Supi Kofi Kwayera brought a suit before the Winneba High Court in which he cited the then Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Avoke for procurement, financial irregularities and argued that the same was operating under a Governing Council whose mandate had expired as far back as November 2013.

On February 2, 2022, The High court in Winneba ordered the University of Education to reinstate its former Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mawutor Avoke to his position.

Also, the court presided over by his Lordship, Aboagye Tandoh ordered the UEW to reinstate officers of the University who lost their positions as a result of the legal battle and pay them all arrears owed them.

A letter dated February 4, 2022, and signed by Nana Ofori Ansah I, Chairman of the Governing Council indicates that Prof Avoke is being reinstated as Vice-Chancellor of the University forthwith in compliance with the order of the Court.

Additionally, it urges Prof Avoke to demonstrate sincere enthusiasm and hunger for genuine and sustainable reconciliation in all his actions as he returns to serve his unexpired term of office.

Moreover, the Governing Council indicates that it has officially notified the Pro-Vice-Chancellor who is currently acting as Vice-Chancellor to hand over to Prof. Avoke.

Further to the above, the letter states that Prof Mawutor is expected to retire from office as Vice-Chancellor on September 2023.
