President swears-in two newly appointed High Court justices
The new judges are Justices Dorothy Ayodele Kingsley-Nyinah and Ama Sefenya Ayittey, both private legal practitioners before their elevation to the bench.
Two new High Court Justices have been sworn-in by President Akufo-Addo at a short ceremony in Accra on Monday.
The new judges are Justices Dorothy Ayodele Kingsley-Nyinah and Ama Sefenya Ayittey, both private legal practitioners before their elevation to the bench.
During the shot induction ceremony, the President charged them to be sensitive to delays in trials, while also urging them to harness the power of technology to advance the rule of law.
“I urge you to be sensitive to undue delays that project the image of Ghana as a destination where litigation takes too long. This affects the attractiveness of the country as an investment destination.
"We know that harnessing the power of technology to advance the rule of law is critical in this modern era, if we are to maintain the confidence of the Ghanaian people and shore-up our nations reputation as a country governed by the rule of law.
“I encourage both of you to take full advantage of the E-justice system in order to expedite the conduct of cases that comes before you and enhance the management of cases before the court."
The appointment of judges to the High Court is backed by Article 144 (3) and 139 (4) of the 1992 Constitution, where the President acting on the advice of the Judicial Council shall appoint a person of high moral character and proven integrity and is of at least ten years’ standing as a lawyer.
