President Akufo Addo is set to swear in Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the substantive Inspector General of Police later today, Friday, October8, 2021.

Dr. Dampare has acted in the capacity within the last two months within which period he has overseen the creation of a new administrative region, the Central East Region. The new region is the first since 1966 and has been carved out of the existing Central Regional Command.

Before being named as acting IGP, Dr. Dampare was the Director-General in charge of Administration at the Ghana Police Service.

At age 51, he will be the youngest IGP to serve in the Fourth Republic and the eighth youngest since independence.

At the recently held 50th Cadet Officers Graduation Ceremony organized at the National Police Training School in Accra, President Akufo Addo indicated that the initiatives already rolled out by COP George Dampare justified his decision to appoint him as acting IGP.

The President has also assured him of the availability of every support he will need to do his work effectively.

“I cannot end without reiterating the support of government and I for the recent actions taken by the Acting IGP George Akuffo Dampare which are eliciting strong backing from the population. He has so far vindicated my decision to repose trust in him to hold this high office.”

“I am confident, once the necessary processes are completed, which I’m sure will be soon; he will become our nation’s 23rd Inspector General of Police,

Crime has been on the ascendancy in recent times with the most common being domestic violence, spousal murders and armed robbery. It is expected that the new IGP will implement policies that curb the menace.
