President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has nominated for appointment three Justices of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.

The nominees are Justices Henry Anthony Cofie, Yaw Asare Darko, and Richard Agyei Frimpong.

This was announced by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu on Friday, November 10, 2023, following a letter received from President Akufo-Addo.

The new appointments follows the recent retirement of two justices of the Supreme Court and a former Chief Justice - Justice Nene  Amegatcher on February 3, 2023, former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah on May 24, 2023, and Justice Jones Dotse on June 8, 2023, leaving the current number of Supreme Court judges at 13, including the Chief Justice.

It's also in line with the conventional practice of pegging the number of Supreme Court justices to 15.

Following their nomination, the Appointments Committee of Parliament is expected to vet them for possible approval or acceptance.
