Police say its investigating audio alleging its officers planted narcotics in doctor’s car

The Ghana Police says it's investigating an incident regarding an audio clip where a doctor alleged that some police officers planted weed and cocaine in his vehicle and attempted to also extort money from him. 

In the said audio clip, the doctor narrated that the policemen, numbering about four, insisted that they found the narcotics drugs in his car and that he should pay an amount of GHC 20,000 to forfeit prosecution.

He also claimed the matter has been reported to the East Legon and Accra Central Police Stations as well as the Narcotics Control Commission and the Ghana Armed Forces.

But in a statement, the Ghana Police Service said initial investigations into the matter indicated that no complaints had been made at the institutions the doctor had mentioned in the audio.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and so far, all efforts to identify the victim of the alleged incident, the said Dr. Patrick Aseidu have been unsuccessful. We, therefore, wish to entreat the victim and any other person with relevant information on the incident to contact telephone number 0200416540, to assist the Police investigations,” the statement further said.
