Police prosecutors to desist from cases involving sums above GHC 500, 000

The Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo has informed all judges about the new directive for police prosecutors to be made to try only cases with monetary value not exceeding GHC 500, 000.00.

With reference to an earlier letter by the Attorney General, the Chief Justice has directed that all such cases above the stated monetary threshold, should be referred to the Attorney General for advice.

Per its February 7 letter, the Attorney General, Godfred Dame affirmed his mandate under Article 88 relative to the prosecution of cases.

He was thus concerned that most lower court judges are not aware of the prosecutorial limit on police prosecutors thus brought same to their attention.
