An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a police officer, General Sergeant Mark Kakah, stationed with the Anyinam Police station for allegedly defrauding 43 persons.

He is said to have collected GH¢361, 300 from victims under the pretext of enlisting them into the Ghana Police Service.

Prosecutors said he was arrested on May 26, 2022, while attempting to defraud another victim.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu, the accused approached the victims in 2021, collected mobile money payments, and went into hiding after.

“In his caution statements, Kakah admitted the offence and indicated that one Macho had collected GH¢ 230,000 out of the whole amount,” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu told the court.

Charged with two counts of defrauding by false pretenses, the accused however pleaded not guilty.

He is to reappear on June 27 before the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh.
