Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah, the police officer who was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in a viral video, has been granted bail by the Sunyani District Court B.

He was granted bail in the amount of GHC 10 000 with one surety.

The presiding Magistrate called for an out-of-court settlement because the matter is a misdemeanor, permitted under Section 73 and 74 of the Court Act 1993 (ACT 459).

The Police in a statement on November 27, 2021, announced that they had arrested the accused after investigations revealed that he was a Police officer with the Bono Regional Police Command.

“On reviewing the video, the Police Administration immediately launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates that the male person involved in that shameful and despicable act is a Police officer stationed at the Regional Operations Unit, Bono Regional Police Command,” the police said in their statement.

He was subsequently remanded into police custody on November 29, on charges of assault, contrary to section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, and indecent assault contrary to section 103 of the same Act.

He is to reappear in court on December 15, 2021.
