Police in the Savannah Region have shot and killed two men suspected to be armed robbers at Kalba, a community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.

The anti-robbery unit of the Police Service was engaged in a gun bottle with the robbers, numbering four, on Sunday morning after robbing some residents of the town. Two of the robbers subsequently lost their lives in the ensuing battle.

The Police believe that these robbers belonged to the same group that terrorised residents and killed two on Tuesday, December 9, 2021.

This is according to information relayed by the Savannah Regional Police PRO to Accra-based Citi News, indicating that the police gathered some clues at the Kalba scene which connected the robbers to the December 9 robbery.

The robbers had attacked a mobile money vendor and a phone shop at about 12pm and managed to bolt with an undisclosed amount of money. Two young men however pursued them in the outskirts of the Sawla township but were shot and killed by the robbers.

Meanwhile, police have deposited the bodies of the deceased suspected robbers at the West Gonja Catholic hospital morgue in Damongo for autopsy.
