The Police in Nyinahin have arrested a suspect, whom is said to be a  labourer, for obstructing fire-fighters at the fire incident that happened at the Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School (SHS) on Friday, October 8, 2021.

District Police Commander for the area, DSP James Jerry Amekah said the suspect is set to appear before court today, Tuesday October 12, 2021.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has also said he has asked the newly-confirmed District Chief Executive for the area, to convene a District Security Council meeting on the matter.

“In fact, what is surprising is that REGSEC sent messages around that some of the third-year students of the various senior high schools were planning to cause trouble after their final exams. So we should all be on alert and I don’t know, this school left themselves loose for this to happen.”

“So I’ve asked the DCE to call an emergency DISEC meeting for the issue to be discussed and the police to also continue with their investigations as well as the fire service,” he said.

The police in statement said, following its Proactive Prevention Strategy, it has initiated engagements with final year students and school authorities at most of the Senior High Schools in the country.

While some have suspected arson, others have said it was a revenge attack by the students on school management for refusing to let them engage in examination malpractice.

Chief of the area, Nana Amampine Twum Boateng II, wants persons found to be involved in the matter, severely punished.
