The Education Committee in Parliament will next week meet the the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), to find a solution to the deadlock between UTAG and Labour Commission.

“We agreed to meet UTAG at our meeting on Wednesday. We plan to hold the meeting next week, listen to them and hopefully bring finality to the matter as we appeal to both sides,” Ranking Member on the Education Committee, Peter Nortsu Kotoe confirmed.

This follows a directive by the High Court yesterday, that UTAG and the National Labour Commission (NLC) should continue negotiations out of court.

UTAG has been on strike since January 10; a development to which many are predicting the closure of universities soon.

The Association wants the government to restore the conditions of service that were agreed on in 2012, which pegged the Basic plus Market Premium of a lecturer at $2,084.42.

Currently, members of the association are paid a premium of $997.84
