The Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee will resume public hearings on the anti-LGBTQ bill today, February 17, 2022.

This would be the third hearing of the committee to listen to presentations from groups who submitted memos either in support of the bill or otherwise.

The groups set to appear before the committee today include the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Key Watch Ghana, Assemblies of God Ghana, and Interfaith Diversity Network for West Africa.

The rest are the Methodist Church Ghana, Alliance for Equality and Diversity, Christain Council Ghana, and Rightify Ghana.

In today’s hearing also, a presentation will be made by the sponsors of the bill on the object and principles of the bill.

The bill in itself titled the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021 has generated debates all over the country and beyond. Initiated by eight members of Parliament, it seeks to criminalize LGBTQI+ activities and advocacy.
