Parliament has received over 124 memos on anti-LGBTQ+ Bill

The bill known as the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021 has generated debates all over the country. Initiated by 20 members of Parliament, it seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities and advocacy.

The Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament has so far received over 124 memoranda regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill before the house.

This is according to Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, Chairman of the Committee.

He noted that, the current number of memos were ones received as at Thursday, October 7th, 2021 and that the Committee would be receiving more to that number.

“Even the day that the Committee would be sitting, if you bring a memo, we will hear you. This is a matter that has a public interest and we would want to hear from all angles,” he said.

It has received widespread public support, while a section of the public have also condemned it, describing it as promoting hate.

Individuals, institutions and civil society organisations have so far submitted memo’s to parliament supporting it or otherwise.
