OSP withdraws cases against Cecilia Dapaah; EOCO to take over

The Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) has withdrawn ongoing cases against the former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

The cases, which included a motion for confirmation of the freezing of her assets and a criminal one that bordered on the failure of the former minister to declare her assets will no longer be continued by the Office.

A release by the OSP notes that its investigation with the FBI shows predominantly that the case bothers on money laundering which does not fall within its mandate and is thus transferred accordingly to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Information gathered by DL News is that the OSP, Mr Kissi Agyebeng was in court in the early hours of January 25, 2024 where he met with the presiding judge, Justice Nana Brew in chambers to withdraw the case, after which he was ordered to release Mr. Dapaah’s frozen assets in 72 hours.

Background

Several negative publications about Madam Dapaah were publicized on July 21 after she had filed a complaint together with her husband and further commenced a criminal action against four(4) persons believed to include their former house help for theft of various valuable items from her residence including a sum of One Million US Dollars and Three Hundred Thousand Euros.

The substantive criminal matter involving the stealing of various sums of money from Madam Dapaah has meanwhile been taken over by the Attorney General with the suspects being granted bail.
