Pressure group, Occupy Ghana has once again written to the Auditor General demanding the latter to respond to its letter indicating the disallowances issued and surcharges demanded from all persons identified as having been either engaged in or responsible for the illegal use of government funds in its 2019 and 2020 audit report.

According to them, if Auditor General fails to reply by providing the above information for the sake of good process and order, it shall be forced to commence legal proceedings against it including filing a petition to the Right to Information(RTI) Commission.

The letter recounts the fact that in September 2021 they wrote to the Auditor General on the same subject matter demanding that it issued disallowances and surcharges to all persons identified in the 2019 and 2020 audit reports but the Auditor General did not respond to their letter.

Further to the above, it indicates that on February 3, 2022, they again wrote to the Auditor General in the exercise of their right to information under article 21 of the Constitution, to demand information on whether or not it had issued the required disallowances and surcharges but was also ignored.

Notwithstanding, Occupy Ghana reiterates that it would repeat its constitutional demand for information on the Auditor General’s compliance or otherwise with the mandatory provisions of the Constitution(as reinforced by the Supreme Court in OccupyGhana V Attorney General).
