The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu has disclosed that Ghana did not record any threats or attacks on its maritime front from 2021 to 2022.

He noted that even though six attacks were recorded in 2020 from its vulnerable tuna vessels which led to some kidnappings, strategies implemented by the Naval Command averted this situation in the subsequent years.

Speaking at a press launch of the 3rd International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC) in Accra, Rear Admiral Yakubu told journalists that over the years, the Naval Command has adopted pragmatic measures that will consolidate the nation’s gains made in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Navy Chief however indicated that the command has recorded some insurgencies in some neighbouring countries this year with a few being terrorism-related.

To deal with this, Rear Admiral Yakubu maintained that this year’s IDEC Conference which will be under the theme; “Consolidating the gains made in the Gulf of Guinea: The role of stakeholders in sustaining safe and secure maritime domain,” will have industry players deliberating to bring out measures to secure the bothers.

Additionally, touching on the importance of cyber security measures in African navies, the navy Chief noted that the advancement in onboarding systems and the rapid transformation in digitalization require navies around the continent to adopt measures to safeguard their operations.
