Nine persons who were arrested for their involvement in a Tuesday gang violence at Nima have all pleaded not guilty to charges of rioting and causing harm.

Lawyers for the accused persons also told the court their clients have alibis.

Seth Gyapong Oware, lawyer for the first seven persons that were arrested explained that his client, Bashiru Ganiru, was called upon by community members to help convey injured persons with his car to the hospital, and it was in the process that he got arrested.

He also said when Bashiru’s car and house were searched, no weapons were found.

Police had said they discovered weapons and ammunition a day after the clash between two youth groups who are said to have never agreed on issues.

Yaw Dankwa, the second lawyer for the two other accused persons that were later arrested said his clients were arrested from their farm.

The court however denied them bail, on the basis that it was early days and that the police were yet to demonstrate any undue delays.

The court has also ordered the police to investigate the alibi of the accused persons and it adjourned the case to February 1, 2022.
