Mexico law firm Von Wobeser y Sierra has launched a large language model chatbot for internal use, making it the first law firm in Mexico to adopt a tailor-made artificial intelligence tool to assist with legal tasks.

The full-service law firm worked with Datasaur, a natural language processing platform, to develop the AI-powered chatbot for use by its more than 150 lawyers.

“Generative AI empowers our human talent, which remains and will continue as the firm’s most valuable asset,” Von Wobeser partner Luis Burgueño said in a statement. “By harnessing this technology, we can offer agile and competitive services, allowing us to focus on value-added work for our clients.”

The tool, named VonBot, was conceived as an in-house legal assistant that can field questions and summarize content.

Datasaur tailored the model using Von Wobeser’s own data, and the law firm expects continuous enhancements to VonBot via the incorporation of new features to improve its efficacy.

Deploying a tailor-made chatbot eliminates privacy concerns that arise from the use of commercially available large language models (LLMs), the companies said.

“As standards of excellence in the legal industry evolve, so must we,” said Pablo Jiménez, another Von Wobeser partner. “VonBot is a testament to our dedication to innovating and integrating cutting-edge technology to better serve our clients.”

Spain’s Cuatrecasas has also rolled out a generative artificial intelligence tool in Latin America, where it has offices in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
