An Accra High Court has remanded into prison custody a self-styled businessman for allegedly masterminding and executing robberies targeting prominent figures and affluent individuals at their homes.

Yahuza Osumanu is accused of robbing a 76-year-old woman at Ridge, as well as the wife of a former Vice President, Matilda Yaaba Amissah Arthur. The prosecution alleges that during the robbery at the former Second Lady’s residence, Osumanu strangled her and repeatedly struck her head with his firearm, making away with GH₵28,000, £50, and $2,200.

Moreover, Osumanu is said to have conducted similar robberies utilizing the same modus operandi on wealthy individuals in upscale neighborhoods, resulting in the theft of valuables worth millions of Ghana cedis.

The list of stolen items reportedly includes two Rolex watches valued at $61,000, two Cartier wristwatches valued at $19,000, an iPhone 15 Pro Max worth $1,000, as well as jewelry estimated at $50,000, among others.

Chief State Attorney Frances M. Ansah led the prosecution, charging Osumanu with 26 counts of robbery and money laundering on April 16. The accused pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution's account of events reveals that during the second quarter of 2023, the Police CID received numerous reports of residential robberies perpetrated by a lone armed assailant in areas such as Airport, Cantonments, Tesano, and Ridge.

One of the incidents occurred on September 17, 2023, when a complainant reported a robbery at his residence in Kaeela Court Apartments, Airport Residential Area. CCTV footage obtained from Kaeela Courts Apartments on December 4, 2023, with the assistance of Dr. Abu Sakara Foster, aided in identifying the accused.

Further robberies were reported on December 4 and December 5, 2023, involving victims such as Daniel Kwame Osafo, Tracy Osei-Hyeaman, and Mrs. Amissah Arthur. In each case, the accused allegedly brandished a firearm, demanded valuables, and fled the scene after completing the robbery. Subsequent investigations led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the accused on December 15, 2023, at Kasoa.

The court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo remanded him into prison custody until his next appearance scheduled for May 2
