The case involving Mafe was heard in his absence. Mafe was detained and accused of housebreaking with the intent to conduct terrorism, arson, and theft, after the National Assembly building in Cape Town was destroyed by fire in 2022.

Earlier this year, Mafe was sent for a psychiatric evaluation at the Fort England Psychiatric Hospital in Eastern Cape after he refused to be admitted to a Hospital in Cape Town.
