The Kaneshie District Court has asked the Prosecutors in the case involving the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Francis -Xavier Sosu, to serve lawyers of the lawmaker with witness statements and documents it intends to rely on at the trial.

The MP has been charged with “obstructing public highway and causing damage to public property” after he led a demonstration in his constituency, to protest the bad state of roads.

The prosecutor, ASP Sylvester Asare, told the Court that they were unable to file their disclosures due to applications the MP had filed at the High Court, to set aside a Bench Warrant that had been issued for his arrest, and another for Stay of Execution to set aside the criminal summons.

Mr. Sosu’s lawyer, Victor Kudzogah Adawaudu said they have decided to withdraw the two applications.

“Earlier we had filed some applications before the court about the propriety of the charges and the jurisdiction. But we have decided to withdraw since his plea has been taken, he’s been granted bail. We believe that we should go ahead, let them bring what they have against us, the basis of the charges. And for us, we think we have a rock-solid case,” he told reporters outside the court.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to March 14, 2022.
