The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has urged the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to organize a credible and fair process to elect his successor.

According to him, such a process will enable the party to choose a candidate who will be acceptable to all segments of the Party.

He further indicated that despite the inevitability of divisions during such a process,  credibility and fairness will deal with that possibility.

“I am hoping that level playing field that allows us to elect our next presidential candidate will also bring us a candidate who can unite our party because competition, inevitably, will bring some divisions in the party but we are the ruling party so, there is the responsibility on us to conduct ourselves in a way that reduces cracks,” he said.

“Cracks in the NPP can have a reflection on the state, we are the ruling party and if our base which is our party is fractured that facture can be translated into fracturing the state, nobody wants that,” he added.

He made this statement on Thursday, October 21, 2021, on Peace FM in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi.

Notwithstanding, the President indicated that if he gets any proof or it becomes evident that the Presidential ambition of any of his appointees is affecting the work of any of them, then he will have to act.

Also, the President admitted being in the same position under President Kuffuor when he had an ambition of becoming the Presidential Candidate of the NPP yet he did not allow that ambition to affect his work as a Minister.

The President is expected to begin his Greater Accra tour today.
