The Judicial Service has clarified and refuted allegations that two bungalows formerly occupied by late Supreme Court judge, Justice Samuel Marful-Sau and His Lordship Justice Victor Ofoe, Justice of the Court of Appeal (Rtd) had been sold to private developers.

In a statement Tuesday, from the Office of the Judicial Secretary, it explained the said bungalows were temporarily relinquished to the Housing Ministry after an agreement signed on 17th February 2023, under the Government Redevelopment Programme (GRP) within Onyasia Close, Roman Ridge, Accra.

The GRP is a programme by the government to redevelop prime lands in the Cantonments, Kanda, West Ridge and Roman Ridge areas into public bungalows and housing units for the growing number of senior government and civil service officials.

"Two (2) properties that had been allocated by the Ministry of Works and Housing to the Judicial Service and which previously had been occupied by the late Justice Samuel Marful-Sau (ISC) and His Lordship Justice Victor Ofoe, JA (Rtd), fell within the re-development enclave.

“The plan under Government's Redevelopment Scheme as expressed to the Judicial Service was to increase the housing stock in the enclave within a two (2) year period from the date of hand over of the properties to the Ministry. Upon completion of the project, four (4) housing units were to be allocated to the Judicial Service for use by Superior Court Judges,” the statement said.

The statement further noted that the Judicial Service accepted the offer, by taking into consideration the “serious accommodation deficit faced by the judiciary, security and safety requirements of judges, and also convinced that the project will be beneficial to the Judicial Service.”
