A  Legislative Instrument(L.I.) that aims at integrating targeted interventions on online child sexual exploitation into the Cybersecurity Act 2020(Act 1038) is currently undergoing deliberations.

By this law, the country will integrate Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSEA) into the National Child Protection systems and the wider cybersecurity agenda.

Speaking at a Stakeholders engagement forum, the Director General of the Cyber Security Authority(CSA), Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako stressed the need for partnership among the various Civil Society Organisations(CSOs) to develop the law.

The L.I. will target social media companies and search engines in addition to owners of critical information infrastructure in the online regulatory framework to protect children while using internet devices.

Additionally, the draft makes a proposal for technologies to detect child users, their age group, and the use of AI to detect and block harmful contents from children.

Also present at the event was the Chief of Child Protection at UNICEF, Lucia Soleti who called for a stronger collaboration between government and service providers and highlighted the need for Ghana to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.
