KSHTS student sustains injuries after forty lashes from Headmistress
The student, identified as Sarafina Mensah has said she was given forty strokes of the cane by the Headmistress, Ama Sika.
Police in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region are investigating a complaint brought by a student of the Komenda Senior High Technical School who has reportedly sustained bad bruises on her buttocks after she was caned by a Housemistress in the school.
The student, identified as Sarafina Mensah has said she was given forty strokes of the cane by the Headmistress, Ama Sika. She had allegedly exited campus without obtaining an exeat.
JoyNews reports that Sarafina left campus without permission to get food from her aunt but was unable to return due to heavy rainfall. She consequently spent the night at home and returned to school the following morning.
The Headmistress was however displeased with the explanation, hence the punishment.
Further reports indicate that having sustained the injuries, she showed her bruised buttocks to Madam Sika and requested medical assistance, but the permission was denied. Madam Sika instead insisted she visits the students’ infirmary.
Complaints were further lodged with the school’s senior housemistress and the Assistant Headmistress, all to no avail.
The police have since commenced investigations into the matter. Meanwhile, the KEEA Municipal Education Director has tasked a team to carry out independent investigations and submit its report.
