Keeping Justice out of reach will amount to criminal negligence – Dr. Bawumia

Addressing the 19th Triennial Conference of Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association, the Vice President thus called on Commonwealth countries to make use of Technology to enhance and facilitate access to justice for the people.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has bemoaned the situation where inefficiencies in the justice systems of Commonwealth Countries are allowed to limit justice to the ordinary citizens.

He noted that such a situation, when allowed to fester, will amount to ‘criminal negligence.

Addressing Judges and Magistrates at the 19th Triennial Conference of Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges Association, the Vice President thus called on Commonwealth countries to make use of Technology to enhance and facilitate access to justice for the people.

Making reference to Ghana’s technological drive in its quest to digitalize our courts and the various initiatives adopted in the courts during the COVID pandemic, he said that the government's digital drive will increase the efficiency of the staff of the Judicial Service while facilitating justice delivery.

Further to the above, Dr.Bawumia noted that if Commonwealth Countries like Ghana fail to take advantage of the numerous technological enhancements to facilitate justice delivery to the frustrated and confused citizens, begging for the same, it will amount to criminal negligence.

On his part, a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Jones Dotse, who represented the Chief Justice at the Conference, charged his colleagues to labor to ensure access to justice not only for their states but for all citizens alike.
