The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has declared an indefinite strike, calling on members to not show up to work until government approves recommendations on salary reviews and other allowances.

“By this declaration of strike, ALL staff of the service are immediately directed not to report to work from today onwards unless and until the President of Ghana complies with Article 149 of the Constitution by approving and paying our new salaries with all the areas from January to date,” the association said in a press release dated May 24, 2023.

JUSAG also wants the Association of Judges and Magistrates (AJMG) to join its strike as they say members of the AJMG are also affected by what they described as “injustice and suffering we are undergoing.”

“The current salary review we are pushing for does not affect only administrative staff of the service. Directors are part, District Court Magistrates are part, Circuit Court judges are part. All these people serving the third arm of government have been subjected to mistreatment form the government.”

According to JUSAG, the Judicial Council submitted a proposal in 2021 for approval on salary increments, however, nothing has been done about it.

They also accuse the National Labour Commission of breaching the rules of natural justice by failing to grant their request for a short adjournment to (Friday May 12, 2023) parties settle and report the outcome of the settlement.

"The Commission failed to heed to our plea and made submissions in favour of absentee party (Government) and adjourned the meeting for two whole weeks (i.e. 24th May 2023).
