Judicial service honours 15 retired judges

In a brief remark, the Hon. Lady Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo eulogized the 15 Justices for their contribution to justice delivery and the Judicial Service.

The Judicial Service of Ghana, has honoured five (5) Justices of the Court of Appeal and 10 Justices of the High Court who have retired.

They were honoured at a send-off dinner at the Alisa Hotel in Accra where they each received a plaque and a retirement package. Those who served for at least 10 years received long service awards and citations.

In a brief remark, the Hon. Lady Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo eulogized the 15 Justices for their contribution to justice delivery and the Judicial Service.

She noted, that building Ghana’s democracy needs people of strong integrity and high ethical conduct, to
ensure survival of the nation. The Hon. Lady Chief Justice emphasized that the Judiciary, in particular, needs men and women to exhibit such conduct in dispensing justice. According to Her Ladyship, to retain the trust and confidence of the people; which are critical elements for the survival of any judicial institution, there is the need for all officers at all levels to display integrity, honour and fairness.

“It is 15 of such individuals that we celebrate today. They have served their country well, promoted the course of justice and expanded the rights of their fellow citizens. Men and women who have displayed strength and demonstrated tremendous insight and excellence in their work on the Bench.” She continued; “These 15 gentlemen and ladies have shown the spirit that animated the founding fathers in their quest for a nation that was not just free, but guaranteed justice to all of its citizens. We cannot thank them enough.”

The Chief Justice asserted, that though the Judges have retired, they have retained the continuing admiration and respect of their colleagues in the Service and the gratitude of the entire nation.

 The ceremony was attended by some Justices of the Superior Courts of Judicature, Deputy Attorney- -General & Minister for Justice, Hon. Diana Asonaba Dapaah, as well as some members of the Judicial Council and General Legal Council, family and friends of the celebrants and some Directors and Staff of the Judicial Service.
