The Kumasi High Court has granted GHC 90, 000 bail with two sureties to former Municipal Chief Executive nominee of Juaben, Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka.

Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka has been charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) with 26 counts of corruption.

In a statement dated May 24, 2022, the OSP, indicated that the accused is facing those charges “in respect of a public election-arising out of two public elections conducted in September and November 2021 for the confirmation or otherwise of his nomination.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor began investigating Mr. Sarfo-Kantanka after a video emerged in November 2021, showing the Juabeng MCE nominee accusing assembly members of failing to confirm his nomination as MCE after he allegedly paid them bribes. In the video that circulated, he also demanded monies he allegedly paid members to influence their votes.

He failed two times to secure the required number of votes for his confirmation as MCE.

He however pleaded not guilty in court and the case was adjourned to June 29, 2022.
