J.B Danquah-Adu murder case: Second accused freed
Bosoo, second accused, and Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, first accused, were being prosecuted for alleged conspiracy to commit crime and murder.
It was an emotional scene at the Accra High Court yesterday, when Vincent Bosoo, standing trial for alleged murder of former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, the late Joseph Boakye (J.B) Danquah-Adu, broke down in tears moments after he was acquitted and discharged.
Bosoo, second accused, and Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, first accused, were being prosecuted for alleged conspiracy to commit crime and murder.
Bosoo was charged for conspiracy to commit crime, while Asiedu, who has been ordered to open his defence, after the prosecution established prima facie case against him, was charged with conspiracy to commit crime, murder and robbery.
So far, the case has suffered several adjournments during the eight years trial.
The late Danquah-Adu, who was the New Patriotic Party’s MP for Abuakwa North, was murdered on February 8, 2016.
Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the presiding judge, ordered the accused to file witness statement by himself and other persons he intends to call as witnesses, by April 15 this year.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Augustus Nkrumah, the investigator, who testified as the 8th prosecution witness, was discharged after defence lawyers, led by Yaw Danquah, concluded their cross-examination of witness.
The late Danquah-Adu, who was the New Patriotic Party MP for Abuakwa North, was murdered in cold blood in his residence at Shiashie, a suburb of Accra, on February 8, 2016.
In May 2017, Asiedu and Vincent Bosoo were discharged, re-arrested and fresh charges preferred against them.
On February 6, 2019, the two were committed to stand trial for the second time for the alleged murder of Mr Danquah-Adu.
Asiedu, and Bosso, were both charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, while Asiedu was separately charged with murder.
Conducting the committal at the District Magistrate court, Ms Sefakor Batse, a Senior State Attorney, said the state would call 11 witnesses and rely on 29 exhibits to prove its case.
She said on February 9, 2016, around 1:00 a.m, the accused planned to undertake robbery, but due to misunderstanding, Bosoo did not partake in the act.
According to Ms Batse, Asiedu went to the MP’s house, robbed him of his three mobile phones and stabbed him (Mr Danquah-Adu) leading to his death.
The prosecution said that Asiedu gave two of the phones to a repairer to unlock, but the repairer saw blood stains on the phone, reported the matter to the police, and Asiedu was arrested.
