An Italian court has ruled that Juventus must compensate Cristiano Ronaldo with £8.3m in overdue wages.

The dispute arose when Ronaldo, aged 39, agreed to defer his wages during the 2020-21 football season in Italy, which was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Initially, Ronaldo claimed he was owed over £17m by his former club.

According to the Court of Arbitration, Juventus is obligated to pay Ronaldo the amount he would have received after tax and other deductions.

During his three-season tenure with Juventus from 2018 to 2021, Ronaldo contributed to the team's success, securing two Serie A titles.

Subsequently, he embarked on a second stint with Manchester United, and after spending 16 months at Old Trafford, he transferred to Saudi club Al-Nassr.

Renowned as a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, an accolade bestowed upon the world’s best player, Ronaldo was recognized by Forbes magazine as the highest-paid sportsman globally in 2023, amassing earnings totaling £109m.
