An Accra High Court (General Jurisdiction Division) has finally granted a bail application by Prince Charles Dedjoe, the businessman who has been accused of murdering his wife. The bail is in the sum of GHS200,000 with two sureties.

As part of the bail conditions, the court, presided over by Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu, has ordered Dedjoe to report to the police once every two weeks, before the trial date.

Prince Dedjoe has been accused of murdering his 43-year-old wife, Lilian Dedjoe who is a trader at East Legon after beating her with slippers.

Previous applications for bail at the High Court had been unsuccessful. Subsequently, a Madina District Court remanded him into custody.

Another motion on notice for an order of bail pending trial was filed by Dedjoe on 25th May this year. The motion was, however, opposed by an Assistant State Attorney, Anastacia Karimu.

Nonetheless, the Accra High Court has admitted Dedjoe to bail after hearing arguments made by the defense counsel, Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Darteey, and the State Attorney.

The hearing of the substantive case is now slated for June 18 at the Madina District Court.

PROSECUTION’S CASE

The complainant is the father of the deceased, Mr. Charles Seth Bladzu, a Retired Administrator residing at Sogakope, in the Volta Region.

The deceased was married to the suspect and both lived at East Legon, Accra. However, the marriage had suffered various misunderstandings for a while.

Another misunderstanding broke out between the two on 1st March this year, during which Dedjoe allegedly assaulted Lilian, causing her to sustain injuries. She received treatment at the Madina Police Polyclinic.

When Lilian returned home, however, her condition deteriorated. On 6th March, she fell into a coma and was rushed to the Lister Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Dedjoe was subsequently arrested and admitted to assaulting his wife with slippers during investigations.
