The Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame has described the retiring Supreme Court Justice, Jones Mawulorm Dotse as a “judge’s judge, lawyer’s judge, and a litigant’s judge.”
Addressing family, well-wishers, and members of the legal fraternity, yesterday at the Valedictory ceremony for Justice Dotse, Mr Dame further noted that he observed right from his first encounter with the retiring judge that he had gravity and was a man of patience.
In 2002, he was appointed to the Bench as a High Court Judge where he served for seven years. And in 2008, he was elevated to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
He has sat on various notable and high-profile cases including the two presidential election petitions, Mensah vs Mensah, the State vs Alfred Woyome and Waterville case, the MV Benjamin Cocaine case, and many others.
Additionally, Mr Dame recounted the level of fairness shown by Justice Jones Dotse in the case of Abena Ackah vs Agricultural Development Bank in which he was until the latter part, counsel for the appellant.
Furthermore, the Attorney General praised Justice Dotse for his courtesy, simplicity, and his human touch, and instrumental role in the exercise of mercy toward the admission of the 499 law students to the Ghana School of Law.
Also, he mentioned the unmatched gentlemanliness, grace, caution, commitment, and erudition, and a great deal of sympathy that Justice Dotse brought to the task of judging.
Finally, Mr. Dame prayed the retiring Justice not to be far from the fraternity despite his retirement because his life in the law, wisdom, and valuable experience need to be tapped now and then.
