The two men who were identified in a viral video wielding guns in the aftermath of the Jamestown bullion van attack have been granted a bail of GHS50,000, with two sureties by a Kumasi circuit court.

The two men, identified as Emmanuel Dakorah and Richard Suleman were arrested by the police after a video in which they brandished guns and openly boasted about it went viral on social media.

They have been charged with an intent to cause fear and panic as well as publication of fake news

According to a report filed by GhanaWeb, the prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagoggie who read the charges prayed the court to grant the police a two-week window within which it would investigate the video’s source.

However, the counsel for the accused persons, Charles Owusu Ansah raised an objection to these charges and implored the court to grant bail to the accused. The trial judge, Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah obliged given that the two accused persons have exceeded the mandatory stay period in police custody.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor has urged the court to afford the police the time to investigate an incident of some two pistols that have allegedly been burnt by the suspects.

Emmanuel and Richard have pleaded not guilty to the charges and will be required to report to the police three times a week.

The case has been adjourned to July 7, 2021.
