The General Legal Council(GLC) has projected to admit some 1500 new students into the professional law course in 2024.

The council, through the Independent Examinations Council, will thus be conducting an entrance examination for 3000 prospective candidates in the same year out of which the above number will be admitted.

These and more are contained in the 2024 Budget Statement delivered by the Finance Minister to Parliament last week.

Further to the above, the Council has projected 900 newly qualified lawyers to be called to the Bar next year.

Also, a non-statutory course in Criminal Prosecution for 100 officers from the Ghana Police Service, Immigration Service, and Fire Service among others will be conducted by the General Legal Council.

This year, 190 lawyers were called to the Bar during the mini call in May in addition to the 1,096 during the main call in October.

Moreover, 2,928 applicants took part in the 2023/2024 Ghana School of Law Entrance exams, of which 964 passed and were duly admitted into the Ghana School of Law.
